Ron Callender

As a consultant to the Gold Prospector Museum in Northern Finland, Ron Callender was commissioned to design and create an exhibition illustrating different aspects of gold discovery, and its application, in Myanmar. When the display was successfully staged in Finland last year, Ron was influenced by the plentiful illustrations, anecdotes and specimens from Myanmar, which he had been able to assemble whilst working from his base in Europe. Once the project was completed, he decided to carry out a personal reconnaissance of the country he had first experienced at long distance.

Ron Callender is a Fellow and former President of the British Institute of Professional Photography, and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. He is a popular lecturer on travel, on photography, and on gold prospecting, and is a regular contributor to international magazines. In recent years, his writing and photography have attracted important awards in competitions and exhibitions.

As former guest lecturer at college and university, Ron specialises in running workshops in photography and in gold prospecting, and has been engaged by New Horizons Travels & Tours Ltd as a tutor and advisor for the special photographic tour in October/November 2001. In the light of the visit he made earlier this year, he has prepared a series of workshops, which address the specific requirements during a photographic tour of Myanmar. He has also agreed to exhibit a selection of photographs from this year's portfolio, complete with his own commentary.
